Cole Stangle Shocks Slingshot Field; Wins $2,000 Kutztown Fair National

Kutztown, PA –  Cole Stangle charged from his 15th starting spot to win the first event of the 2017 National Dirt Week at the annual Kuztown Fair on Tuesday, August 15. Stangle earned a $2,000 payday after seeing the checkered flag first in the Super Slingshot Fair Nationals at the JeffreyHogueRealtor.com Action Track USA.

Taylor Mills led the field early from the pole starting spot. Mills waged a very entertaining early race battle with Dylan Hoch, who was the defending winner of the lucrative, 55-lap race.

A few early race yellow flags allowed Hoch numerous opportunities to challenge the race leader Mills on the double file restarts. Hoch actually held the lead a few times, only to have the move negated by the yellow flags.

By lap nine Alex Yankowski had moved into the thick of the battle before wrestling the second spot away from Hoch. On the next restart Yankowski used the outside line to move into the race lead and Hoch would follow him to second.

Yankowski held off Hoch for the next eight laps before their battle came to an end under the next yellow flag when Hoch’s car suddenly slowed and the Mertztown, Pa. driver headed for the infield.

Cole Stangle moved into the second spot and joined Yankowski on the front row for the restart. Yankowski held onto the race lead through the lap 18 restart and continued to lead as the field reached the half way marker, maintaining the advantage ahead of Stangle and Brett Bieber at halfway.

Stangle slowly closed back in on the race leader as they entered into lap traffic. By the time the caution flag was unfurled on lap 32 Stangle had made his move to the race lead thanks to his success in traffic.

The field would race through until lap 52 of the 55 lap feature when the yellow flag came out for the final time for Taylor Mills who slowed while running inside the top five.

Stangle was able to get away from Yankowski on the single file restart as Yankowski was left to fend off a hard charging Brett Bieber for the runner up spot.

Stangle crossed the line for the biggest win of his young career with an almost one second lead. Yankowski was second followed by Bieber to round out the podium. Nick DelCampo recovered from being involved in the first yellow flag of the race to finish fourth. Cody Kline was caught up in a lap six yellow flag and also worked his way back through the field for fifth.

Jared Silfee, who started 28th, was sixth followed by Austin Stufflet, Brian Carber, Austin Silfee, and Kyle Herve.

Dual heat races were run with wins going to Joey Vacarro, Brett Bieber, Seth Spayd, Austin Silfee, Taylor Mills, Alex Yankowski, Dave Carraghan, Nick DelCampo, Felix Roy, and Mike Taylor.

Samantha Muller had the best point total at the end of the heat races.

Zack Kistler and Gavin Danner won C-Mains with Vacarro winning the B-Main.

There were 46 Slingshots signed in for competition.
